Automatic phase disconnection

The automatic phase disconnection function is essential for optimum solar power charging. Depending on the available power of the self-generated energy from the PV system, the wallbox automatically switches 2 phases off or on, to ensure an optimum charging process without interruptions. This is because as soon as the charging current drops below a limiting value (4.1 kW for 3-phase charging or 1.4 kW for 1-phase charging), the charging process is terminated. This value represents the minimum current requirement.

If the solar power drops briefly below 4.1 kW due to cloudy weather the wall box switches from 3- to 1-phase charging. Charging can continue with lower power. Only 1.4 kW has to be present (limiting value for 1-phase charging). If the self-generated PV power then rises to above 4.1 kW again, the charging station automatically reverts from 1- to 3-phase charging. Without automatic switching, during 3-phase charging, if there is a drop in power of the PV system, the charging process is terminated, since the minimum charging current for 3-phase charging is no longer reached.

Activation requires a software update to firmware version 5.33, which can be installed over-the-air if a network connection is available or locally via USB stick. Further information on the software update can be found here:

Legal information and exclusion of liability:

Between the switching operations of the automatic phase disconnection or phase connection, switching times are required by the electric vehicle for a trouble-free switching process. So when switching the charging process from 1-phase to 3-phase charging or vice versa, a waiting time of 120 seconds occurs during which the electric vehicle is not charged.

There are a small number of electric vehicles that cannot be charged with automatic phase cut-off due to the charging technology used. This depends on the charging technology used in the electric vehicle. If the phases are switched on or off before the charging process, this is not a problem with any EV. However, if the phases are switched on or off during the charging process, the vehicle, the wallbox or the electrical installation may be damaged if the vehicle is not compatible. Therefore, only activate this function if the vehicle to be charged has been approved by Spelsberg and the manufacturer and ensure that no other vehicle is using the wallbox.

As this concerns the charging technology of individual manufacturers, Spelsberg has no influence on compatibility. Spelsberg therefore accepts no liability for damage caused by operation with non-compatible electric vehicles, whether to the vehicle itself, the wallbox or the electrical installation.
